Wizün
Wizün is a clay-working practice explored in the workshops held in Külche Mapu. Learning follows several stages—shaping, drying, burnishing and firing—that require an understanding of the material’s timing and responses. Moisture, thickness, cracks and the effects of fire are part of a learning process built through observation, repetition and experience. Metawe, yiwe, rali and challa have been made during this process, connecting the knowledge shared in the workshop with each participant’s experiences, memories and decisions. Pieces that need correcting or remaking, and the uncertainty of firing, help us understand Wizün beyond the finished result, recognizing the time, practice and knowledge within each work.
