Mamüll

Wood calls for observation before working on it. Its shape, hardness and response to tools guide a process that combines observation, practice and adjustment. Making a püfülka or a wanku allows learners to progress from their first cuts and adjustments towards greater confidence with the material and the decisions each piece demands. Making mistakes is also part of learning. A püfülka may begin crooked and take on a different shape during the work; something that seemed hard to resolve may change after another look. Alongside this experience comes the satisfaction of recognizing something made with one’s own hands, and the possibility of continuing to practise and share that knowledge with others.
